Why be a great communicator?

Soft skills are increasingly becoming the hard skills of today's workforce. It's just not enough to be highly trained in technical skills, without developing the softer, interpersonal and relationship-building skills that help you to communicate and collaborate effectively. Our "Engage” training program teaches you the 7 communication skills decoded from genius communicators.  It provides sophisticated yet easy-to-learn frameworks to navigate conversations. By using these communication processes consistently, you will operate within a well formed frame and create a discourse that is clear and concise.  And as a result, it will transform the way you are heard, seen and regarded in your workplace and life.

What people say

Virgin Australia

Susy Goldner

This stuff has changed my life! In fact it has changed the way we do business here. Apart from exceeding the targets for productivity improvement – there is a real buzz – an optimistic energy around here – the difference is palpable. We also have a new way of communicating and asking questions that is far more efficient and gets accurate information quickly. This flows on to get fact decision making which has a big impact on business performance and staff morale

Telecom NZ

Trish Keith

We are gob smacked by this result. Gob smacked is a technical term we use around here to describe the executive management response when sales uplift by 60% within 12 weeks and the customer satisfaction index on our outbound sales team concurrently improves to exceed that for our inbound customer service operation

ADT Tyco

Aaron Kedzlie

This really works and the result is great. Conversion ratios have increased by an average of 70% and activity levels have nearly doubled. I think we can get another 20% improvement and we are now targeting that additional gain

Commonwealth Bank of Australia

Fred Pollock

We have tried for more than seven years to drive this change with the Retail team. And now within six months it’s like a roller coaster on the downhill run – unstoppable! I think Retail would drive this project now, even if we weren’t here to support them

Queensland Urban Utilities

Rob Lynch

The change in leadership behaviour, are really showing.  Overtime is down more than 65% and productivity is up.  We are clearing our priority 3 and 4 jobs backlog - which means we do not need to engage third parties to do the work and our costs are dropping. In addition our quality of service delivery has improved; I’m now getting regular letters and e-mails of commendation, customer complaints have dropped to zero

Brendan Farrugia

Today we applied what you taught us with a client who was less than impressed with us prior to the meeting.  One hour later for him to thank us, say that we were very different from other sales representatives and to ask could we come back to present to the directors was a fantastic result. The whole team is certainly walking around with a lot more confidence.

Mercury IT

Luke Halliday

  • Traditional training

Traditional trainers attempt to create behavioural change directly with new behaviour. What results is that graduates can talk about what to do (e.g. answer test questions) but they fail to develop the flexible behavioural competence and capability in real life

  • Our programs

This course is designed on the principles of Cognitive Load Theory to ensure information is easily learned, retained and applied. We combine this with experiential learning (i.e learning by doing) activities for powerful behavioural change for participants

A difference that makes all the difference

It is often believed some of the skills required to lead and manage people are instinctive. They are not. They are learned.    Anyone who has ever had to make a team, an organisation or business work knows the importance of communication skills.   Yet so many of us have not been trained or been mentored in the art of effective communication and leadership.    The "Engage" program consists of a number of communication and thinking patterns essential for managing others effectively; especially making and responding to requests.  In addition to managing down the Engage program is an excellent tool for managing up and managing sideways. As a result of incorporating the "Engage" model you will find that as either a leader or a team member in your workplace you are then well placed to become the model for replicating the behaviours that you want to see in others in the organisation. This is how organisational culture can be nudged in a useful direction.

Meet the instructors

Geoffrey Wade

Geoffrey Wade is an international business performance improvement consultant specialising in workplace communications and leadership and co-founder of Performance Break-thru Academy. He lives in Brisbane, Australia where the climate is known for being beautiful one day, perfect the next. He is recognised for helping leaders in medium to large corporations to drive quantum improvements in business results. Geoffrey and his team have helped over 10,000 leaders build high performing teams. He’s the author of numerous white papers on communications, leadership and organisational change and the book "The Sales Edge". Geoffrey believes that once you shift the prevailing limiting mindsets about what people can do, that fast and lasting organisational change is possible in many enterprises and that it comes through the effective communication with and leadership of human assets. He says “leaders and organisations are inconsistent and ineffective at connecting with their people - and hidden within this capability gap lies the potential to improve employee psychological safety, engagement and performance”. He is on a mission to shift the prevailing paradigm that employees are liabilities to one where staff are seen as assets and treated accordingly.

Chris Collingwood

Chris is a recognised leader in training design and delivery specialising in leadership development, executive coaching and NLP training and co-founder of Performance Breakthru Academy.  From working with leaders, managers and entrepreneurs over the past thirty years, he has observed that there are specific components that shift teams and organisations from good results to exceptional results. He lives with his partner Jules in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia.  Chris is co-author of the “NLP Field Guide; A reference manual of practitioner level patterns” and has produced hundreds of graduates through his and Jules’s Graduate Certificate qualification in NLP.     He says that “For leaders and organisations, interpersonal communication is fraught with danger.  Important ideas and information are often communicated poorly, resulting in misunderstanding, and low grade execution of projects.  Unfortunately, when a person is promoted into a leadership position, typically they are not taught how to manage themselves or the people who report to them effectively.  Self management includes managing one’s own states, shifting context, and performance”. He is on a mission to help leaders unleash the best in their people to benefit both the working experience and business results.
